History of the Center for Applied Economics Research
The Center for Applied Economics Research was initially established within the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration in early 1974. Its official establishment was endorsed by the University Council on July 11, 1975, under the abbreviation “CAER”. Later, on May 30, 1985, the Center was incorporated into the work plan of the Kasetsart University Research and Development Institute (KURDI) under the Applied Economics Research Coordination Division. In 1992, it was proposed to be recognized as a faculty research unit equivalent to an academic department in alignment with the Seventh National Economic and Social Development Plan.
In 1995, new regulations and an organizational structure were introduced. Under the Faculty of Economics, the Center assumed responsibility for managing research activities and supporting faculty members. The Center was directed by an elected Director, serving a two-year term, and administered by the Executive Committee in coordination with three departments: the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, the Department of Economics, and the Department of Cooperatives.
On September 15, 2006, the Faculty of Economics announced revised regulations, designating the Center as a central research unit responsible for coordinating faculty-level projects and serving as an administrative support hub. Under this system, the Director is appointed by the Dean (with a concurrent term) and can nominate up to two Deputy Directors. This 2006 announcement officially rescinded the previous administrative regulations dated November 30, 2004.
